Intermediate or above normal FENO levels are:

These elevated FENO values need to be interpreted along with clinical examination and other diagnostic tools.
If the patient is symptomatic and is takning anti-inflammatory medication, consider: [Taylor 2006]
• A viral or bronchial infections as the cause of inflammation (neutrophilic inflammation)
• Higher than normal allergen exposure or worsening of atopy
• Increasing the ICS dose
• Adding a long-acting β2 agonist
• Consider the possibility of non-compliance
• Ensure correct inhalation technique is being used
- In a child consider using metered dose inhaler and spacer if the child is currently using a dry powder device
If the patient is asymptomatic and on treatment:
• Keep on same treatment
