Dr. Stanley Szefler (MD) comments on the Lancet (2008 Sep 20;372(9643):1065-72) publication:
"...we do feel that exhaled nitric oxide has a role in asthma management. It can be useful in assisting with the diagnosis of asthma, in measuring response to inhaled corticosteroid therapy, in predicting response to inhaled corticosteroid therapy in children, and in assessing adherence to inhaled corticosteroid therapy.
Additionally, the results of the current study should provide a model for managing asthma in inner-city children. We have demonstrated that careful application of an NIH asthma guidelines-based approach can result in optimal control of asthma in the majority of inner-city children who participated in this study.”
